LUCK, by Dr. Ogi Ressel
Friday, June 19th 2009Warm hellos to everyone!
A number of years ago, I saw a sign in a very upscale area of Toronto -
the Yorkville district - and I have never forgotten it. There he was; a
picture of Michael Jordan holding a basketball in his huge hand. The
inscription at the bottom of the photo simply said: "Practice so hard they
think you're lucky!"
I mention this because many of us tend to look at other chiropractors
who are doing much better and we tend to think that the reason they are
so much better off is because of luck.
I mean, here you are; a simply amazing person, a stupendous individual,
intelligent, good looking, bright, a fantastic doctor, and you are just not
cutting it out there. It is not happening for you. Your well is just dry. Your
cloud has no silver lining. You are out of luck.
But, that other guy is just so lucky. I mean, here he is; new Bimmer, new
house, pool, golf club membership, yacht, kids in private school, the talk o
f the town, brand new clinic, Porsche for his wife - man, is he lucky! And here
you are; cracked driveway, house needs new roof, VW wagon, Toyota Corolla
for your wife, public school for the kids, no pool, and you don't even play golf.
Does that about size it up for you?
And of course the reason is because he is just so much luckier at life than you.
Right.
I say this because these are the games and excuses that prevent us from
becoming the amazing doctors we can be. I've learned a long time ago that
luck has very little to do with your success in life. The biggest impact is a little
thing called "work." Yes....work. Let me spell it out for you:
W.O.R.K.
Add to that a little dash of Determination and a sprinkle of Perseverance and
now you amount to something. When mixed in the proper concentrations with
these ingredients and a touch of attitude, it takes on a totally different meaning.
Yes! Now you can call it "LUCK!"
There's a concept!
So, the next time you look at the fellow with the Bimmer, the new house, and
the new office, look beyond the flash. Look beyond the glitz, and the façade,
and the show. You will probably see an individual who has conquered and mastered
WORK. You will see a doctor who has made hard work his ally. Who understands
the laws of return, who totally gets the idea that basing one's life on wishing and
hoping and dreaming is a fast road to nowhere.
So....instead of being jealous, I suggest you spend time with him and learn
what it is that made him so lucky - maybe it will, just by some magic, rub off
on you! And that would not be a bad thing!
Warmest wishes,
Dr. Ogi Ressel
