A challenge, by Dr. Ogi Ressel
Wednesday, June 17th 2009Warm hellos to everyone,
Some of you may think that I am driven and totally on purpose. You are right.
But I have to share one thing with you - the best thing for Christie and I to
see and experience as we teach the PEP Program, is the light that shines
in everyone's eyes as they realize their own possibilities and potential to
have their dream practice - that is what is really exciting to us: To see the
realization dawn in everyone's face - "I can do this.
I really can have the practice of my dreams! And I can do this without
prostituting my integrity, my honor and myself. And I don't need to frighten
anyone, or scare them, or have them sign up with me because of some
manipulated idea that this is what Christ would want for them.
And I can do this without feeling like a used-car salesman. And I can be
paid for what I love to do! Really! Awesome!!! I can do this!!!!"
And you know,... that is a feeling which cannot be measured. It is my reason
d'être for doing what I do!
Consider this;
My wife, Linda, and I are sitting at the Twin Cities Grill at the Mall of America,
having lunch. Next to us is a young couple, totally cemented in one another.
The world has ceased to exist - all that remains is the non-verbal
communication between them. As we are leaving the restaurant, Linda and
I walked up to their table and told the young girl that she had an absolutely
stunning smile. As you can imagine, both were taken aback to say the least.
The young man though, jumped in with both feet and totally agreed with
us and his love for his girl was clearly written all over his face - it was quite
touching. So much so that Linda had tears in her eyes. They thanked us for
our compliment and we were on our way.
I pondered our exchange.
How many times do we pass up a moment where we can really serve someone
with a kind word, a smile, a gesture of friendship, a kindness - these cost
nothing yet their value cannot be measured.
We are so wrapped up in out own lives that we often do not notice the needs of others.
Listen....Your Universe is a reflection of what you choose to see. And often we
are blind and only see our own semblance and our own reflection.
And so it is with your practice - many doctors tend to focus on the mechanical
expression of practice - of the running of the business of practice - the scheduling
of appointments, the billings, the collections, the seemingly endless staff tribulations,
the occasional patient complaints, the unceasing politics, the insurance nonsense,
etc., and we miss the most important aspects of life.
We miss the warmth and love of human connections that we should be making
every day, the wonder of expression, the cravings of appreciation, the zest for
life, and the abundance of spirit - yet this is the life-blood of everyday practice!
In this short THOT that I writing to you as we prepare for Easter (for those who celebrate it),
I'd like you to take a little time each day and consider the abundance that is
present in your life.
Yes, abundance - not of things necessarily, but of life.
See it everywhere. Invite it into your universe. Learn to manifest it. Exude it.
Share it with others.
You'll find a different meaning to the word "Life."
I would like to propose a challenge for you - make it a point of your day, every day,
to give at least one person you've never met before, a compliment from your heart.
And see the light in their eyes.
And expect nothing in return.
You can also do this with your patients - the transformation you'll witness will
astound you.
Someone once told me: "In a room which has been filled with darkness for a
thousand years, you only need a small candle to see what is in it - and the need
of dusting."
Warmest wishes,
Dr. Ogi Ressel
